Subject: SERIAL KILLER WESTERN AUSTRALIA
I AM THE CHIEF OF STAFF WITH CHANNEL 7 NEWS IN PERTH WESTERN AUSTRALIA. I AM WONDERING WHETHER YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION OR HAVE BEEN INFORMED ABOUT A SERIES OF DISAPPEARANCES INVOLVING YOUNG WOMEN IN PERTH.
THE LATEST DISAPPEARANCE IS CIARA GLENNON, AGED 27. ALL 3 WOMEN HAVE GONE MISSING IN THE LAST 15 MONTHS, ALL FROM THE SAME SUBURB AND ALL AFTER ATTENDING THE SAME POPULAR RITZY NIGHTCLUB.
THE BODY OF ONE OF THE WOMEN HAS BEEN FOUND, BUT NO TRACE OF THE OTHER TWO. POLICE HAVE FORMALLY DESCRIBED THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE AS A SERIAL KILLER. POLICE HAVE FEW OR NO LEADS AND WE ARE WONDERING WHETHER YOU HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY POLICE OR OTHERS, OR INDEED WOULD BE INTERESTED IN FOLLOWING UP THIS CASE.
History of the Case (from other sources)
A suspected serial killer believed to have murdered three women in the Australian city of Perth has been described by a leading criminologist as a "verbal, intelligent man who has been able to get the trust of his victims."
The last known victim Ciara Glennon, 28, disappeared March 17, 1997 leaving the Continental Hotel -- a popular nightspot in an affluent suburb of Perth -- after a St. Patrick's day celebration. She is the third woman to disappear from the Continental and its surrounding within the last 14 months. The two other victims were, Sarah Spiers, 18, who disappeared in the early hours of a January morning in 1996, after visiting the Continental with friends, and Jane Rimmer, 23, disappeared from the same area eight months ago.
Ciara Glennon, the third victim, was found in a shallow grave some 40 miles outside of Perth three weeks after her disappearance. Jane Rimmer was also found 25 miles from the city. The body of Sarah Spiers has yet to be discovered. Police believe the killer enjoys to drive, because of the long distances he/she covers to bury the bodies of victims. Strangely, police stated the killer enjoys washing his car after killing based on evidence found at the murder scenes.
The detective leading the hunt, Paul Ferguson, said police suspected the killer was a person in authority, such as a police officer or security guard. "These are not random attacks. The person or persons responsible are very organized. The age and type of women targeted show these attacks don't just happen anywhere, to anyone."
Another theory is that the killer could be a cab driver. Detectives are taking fingerprints and saliva samples from Perth's 3,000 licensed taxi drivers. The authorities in Perth advised young women not to travel home on their own alone. Night-time taxi trade has dropped by 40 per cent.
